Google My Business Tips in Detail
Google Posts
A heavily underused feature of Google My Business profiles is the Google Posts section and it works in a similar way to posting on social media. Posts are displayed as mini updates in a carousel as part of your knowledge panel, although they expire after seven days.
What’s New, Events, Offers, Products. The ‘What’s New’ post type could be populated with exciting announcements.

For an example of how an Estate Agent could use Google Posts and benefit specifically by giving greater exposure to his portfolio of real estate property have a look at this article and video called Google My Business For Estate Agents. There you will get some examples of how you should always use the “Post feature” to link to your property for a massive SEO boost, along with examples of how the properties look in Google My Business.
Keep Checking Your Listing Details
Did you know that anyone can suggest an edit to your profile? That includes your worst enemy trying to sabotage your business. It’s therefore essential that you keep an eye on your profile and monitor any suggested changes, even if you don’t have any enemies.
Details about your business are not just made by you the owner. There are Google Local Guides, who like to do nothing more than review your business and add missing details. They are not always going to have it correct. So you need to be on the ball here and keep checking back.

Use Google My Business Insights
This tip is easy to miss. Find out handy information like whether your Google My Business profile was viewed on Search or Maps, as well as customer actions, such as website visits, direction requests and phone calls. You can also see how successful your photos have been in comparison to other businesses like yours.
Insights are powerful and rather than ignore, you should be reacting to what it tells you about your visitors data. Insights can tell you how many users found your business using keywords? Details on your branding and is it really working for you. You can locate the number of views unique to your Business listing. Find out if an event or promotion worked during the month.
Other questions that insights can answer include:
- Is my traffic natural or organic traffic?
- What Customer Actions were taken during the last month?
- How many people picked up the phone?
- How many visitors asked for directions to my address?
- Did anyone use the quote button or messaged me on my business app?
I’ve produced a video for insights which will help you answer the above in more detail.
Google My Business Photos
Again, an often overlooked aspect of your GMB listing and one that can make a very noticeable difference to click-through rates. People are visual beings and some snazzy photos will help build an overall positive image of your business. Include a logo, a shot of your premises if applicable and any other photos which you think will help to effectively promote your business
