Today we look at how to send to different audiences while using the free Mailchimp option.
This guide is for startups and small businesses who have a low marketing budget.
Mailchimp users will be familiar with the fact, Mailchimp have cashed in on its popularity. with “lists” being replaced with “audiences”. With only one “Audience” allowed before you part with £120 a year subscription for 3 Audiences. So, a lot of the free benefits we took for granted now require s subscription.
For small businesses, which have a very low budget, they may not jump at the chance of paying a monthly subscription for a very small advantage.
Today I have 2 tips that seem to work perfectly and are free for Mailchimp users.
Better Use of Tags : Tip#1
Example Your company wants to use 2 forms on its site as it has 2 audiences. One for clients who like Widget A and on a different part of the site a form for clients interested in Widget B. in the past, you could setup 2 lists, one for Widget A and The other for B Widgets. Then you would chose to send to list A or B via 2 different forms on your website. Then in Mailchimp you can choose to send a campaign aimed at the A or B or both lists.
Problem: Lists are now called Audiences and you get only one audience for 2000 emails, but here is tip #1
Tip#1 Use tags so your audience is now made up of clients that have a tag “Widget A” or tag “Widget B” next to there email. The tag needs to be applied when they enter a form. There is no limits on how many tags you can apply!
Multiple Mailchimp Forms is Possible : Tip#2
Example: Taking the example above where your company wants to use 2 forms on its site as it has 2 audiences. A Widget A Form with Tag and on a different part of the site a form for clients interested in Widget B with the tag built into the form.
Problem: You cant have multiple forms, or can you?
Tip#2 WordPress users need a plugin called…..Easy Forms for Mailchimp. This plugin enables you to add your Mailchimp API and then manage multiple forms within your WordPress Admin area. You can add different tags to each form…awesome. You will need to add all of the fields required to your original Mailchimp form. Then select which ones to use from within the Easy Form plugin.
That’s it, you now have a free way of dividing your audience through multiple forms.
Mailchimp Video Tutorial
How to create a list in mailchimp (2019 FREE Version)
To make the tutorial even easier for you. I decided to create a video tutorial. This should help you see the process in full action.
Now Mailchimp took away multiple lists and replaced them with “Audiences”. Then they started charging for more than one audience! So this cool workaround should enable you to use a multiple Mailchimp list (audience) for free. This is perfect if you want to send a newsletter to certain individuals but not everyone in your email list. Yes, if you don’t have the budget for more than one (the free one) audience, then this is going to be the perfect tutorial for you.
As a bonus, in the video I reveal a lovely little plugin that enables you to build multiple forms in your WordPress website, and send them through to one or more of your tags. As you can imagine the combination of these two great tips, gives you exactly the same ability you had with Mailchimp multiple lists, except its still FREE!
