It’s true, yet it’s not a particularly well-known fact amongst small business owners. It’s easily done if you have the right tool and have a Google Analytics account setup.
So today I’m going to show you the easiest way to add Google My Business into your Google Analytics. Just with a relatively simple UTM link code, this will give you a reasonable depth of insight into your Google My Business traffic.
Millions of businesses have little or no interest in what happens to there traffic or where it came from and where it goes. There is nothing wrong with this is you have an overwhelming demand for your product or services. But things can changes as we know with COVID-19. This suddenly gave a wake-up call for the businesses that had ignored online sales.
Analytics comes in all shapes and sizes, so its worth looking your options so you don’t get an overload of stats all at once. “Analysis paralysis” can blow your mind. So these are your options:
After several tests, I would recommend this Chrome extension for UTM tagging. Its called Google Analytics URL builder and is found on Trafikant’s website.
This special tool will provide you with a unique tracking code for your analytics account. Using whats known as the UTM address (“UTM” stands for “Urchin tracking module.” Urchin acquired by Google in 2005 – today Google Analytics.)

Google analytics helps you for several reasons including:
As mentioned above not every business owner wants the in-depth analysis. So I liken most business owners to 1 of 3 types of animals in character:
Ostrich buries its head in the sand – This owner hopes the business will get by.
Busy Beaver – He responds to things he sees immediately. Avoids being bogged down.
The Chimp – This geek loves problem-solving. He owns analytics and loves nit-picking detail.
Much data can be gathered through insights. Its found within the GMB dashboard on the left hand side menu. GMB insights will answer questions like how much traffic do your photos bring in? Is your visitors finding you on Maps or Google search? How do you compare to other listings within your business category?
For a lot more in-depth understanding of Google My Business Insights take a look at my recent video below:
Google Search Console is well worth having if you haven’t added an account to your business yet. Its Google effort to work with webmasters and help them discover information so you can produce quality content for your website visitors. Visit the Google Search console here
Search Console produces reports that can help you measure your site’s Search traffic and performance, fix issues and improve your ranking in the Google Search results
If you have a WordPress website and your reading this article then you really do need to take a look at one of my favourite plugins from Google themselves. This special tool if you have a WordPress site is called “Site Kit“
Site Kit sits directly in the WordPress dashboard. It gives you a full flavour of insights about how people find and use your site, how to improve, your content. What issues you have and how your pagespeed works on mobiles and desktops.
Works a treat and looks great.
So using the Chrome extension for UTM tagging above, you can add UTM parameters to fully track your campaigns performance in Google Analytics. This gives you incredible depth on your Google My Business listing including:
To setup a Google Analytics account so you can then use the UTM links go over to https://analytics.google.com/analytics/web/
In summary, work out what detail of information you need and then use it and respond to it regularly. You may well find that setting up Google Site Kit is all you need.
