A review on Wix vs WordPress, which is best and why for a gardening business
Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, Weebly or even Facebook are so often the starting point for many businesses. Understandably a business is set up with zero budget and the website is often considered a lot of money for little return.
But like small acorns create large oak trees overtime, what you plant or invest will pay dividends. My advice is as soon as you can move away from the cheap solutions like Wix or Shopify the better. These just say to any visitor “I’m not able to afford a smart website”. Or “I don’t value my websites as an important part of my business”.
Recently with the lock down and business being awakened for the importance of out competing online, now is the time to get a smart looking website design or optimise what you have.
Wix vs WordPress
Ultimately, WordPress (which is free to download) is fully manageable, has all sorts of functionality, is used by over 50% of businesses is fully scalable and provides you with a bespoke website solution. The others web solutions, in this case Wix provides none of the above, so avoid if you can.
What areas to consider as important if you have a gardening business
If you have heard of SEO (search engine optimisation) but never wanted to pat an expert to look at your website and start tinkering with keywords then you should take a look at adding your Gardening business to Google My business.
Google My Business For Gardeners and Landscape Designers, is a video I produced in response to several businesses wanting to have there websites reviewed.
I give a website reviews, a Google My Business review and some other local seo tips for two garden businesses Greenweeds garden, who have a good GMB and is a Gardener in Stoke-on-Trent. They use a Wix CMS so this will be a big challenge for them
How can you improve your chances of local customer business?
In both reviews I found areas they could improve in.
Greenweeds Garden
Greenweeds Garden had a relatively good Google My Business presence for a new business, but had plenty of potential if it kept adding more articles and filled out all of the FAQs and description areas.
It was found on Google maps at position 66th if i searched for a Gardener in Stoke-on-Trent. This may be one of the reasons they hadn’t had many enquiries.
As mentioned above its branding and website layout was incredibly limited due to the owner using a Wix Content Management System

Shaw Garden Care
Shaw Garden Carewas clearly well designed in WordPress. The posts and Google My Business entrees would need some attention as I recommend at leasyt one post a week and use of local towns and clients all help.
They would improve if they continued to optimise their images with descriptive names as this gives google more understanding and image search is growing bsed on titles of the image.
The Google My Business presence would improve if it reflected the Facebook updates. Sadly in the video there was another company with the same name, so the Facebook page isn’t the one owned by the web owner in the video.
