But as you will know from my Youtube following, being told isn’t the way forward here. The intent is you want to have someone show you how to add your business to Google Maps.
So this led me to making a series of videos and the first on is entitled
Welcome to this free course on learning Google My Business. For a long time, I’ve wanted to produce a series that takes a business through GMB right from scratch.
Google My business is a way to put your business on the map and get local customers to find you through mobiles, voice search and other devices.
So I’m taking a real business and going to register it, set it up, complete its listing, analyse it, optimise it, use all the very latest tools and monitor its growth.
You can watch me fix problems along the way and provide you with the advanced courses to go to if you want to dive into greater depths as we get there.
My goal is to provide you with everything you need to optimise your business for Google, we may touch other tools, indexes citations as this all has an impact
By the end of this series we will of covered all the fundamentals for your Google My Business listing. You would have learnt all the skills you need to fully optimise your GMB and you will fully understand how to keep your business growing for more customers, more business and bring in the money.

Consistency is like an arch enemy. For some reason registering your business naturally becomes an inconsistent process. The wheel is constantly being reinvented. Why? In this episode of my Free Google My Business Course 2021, I look at the importance of consistency. I stress particularly business consistency. It’s the 3rd part of the Free Google My Business Course 2021.
So, we have just verified the business. I’m now going to show you how to add the right services, which are in effect often similar to your categories for your business – this is important to get right and I explain why in the video above.
Each service is a mini arena to compete in. The more services you offer the better. But you do need to offer them!
Next, you need to look at keywords and the consistency across all mentions of the business. Using your current business profiles eg Yell / Facebook / Linkedin / Instagram / Check a Trade. These should form much of your information and remain consistent Repeat this for your opening hours Near the end of the video, we look at the important description area. Keywords and description are both incredibly important here.

In the video above we look at the method to take your photos out of Instagram, Facebook, Yell and other social media platforms and the simplest way to get them showing in your GMB listing.
Do not use stock photography in your Google My Business listing. Google will find and delete stock photos. However, Google thinks photos are one of the most important factors in GMB. Take your business (as I do in the example video) and give it a good setup and monitor it. Quantity and quality are what Google asks and rewards.
Additional clues can come from Googles reports. Therefore you can also get an idea of what the competition is doing in insights. Their find your photo views of your business vs business like yours and make sure you are above the competition.
Steer clear of anything too professional and overly polished as it can actually be off-putting.
You have heard the expression “you eat with your eyes” right? or think of when you look at a menu. Visual appearance will impact their experience even before they taste it. Think about how flower shops, images make a massive impact.
Google reported that businesses with photos receive 42% more requests for driving directions and 35% more click-throughs to their websites.
60% of consumers said local search results with good images pushed them towards a decision. According to Brightlocal.
So far we have registered Google My Business. Seen consistency with names description and NAP, that’s name, address and phone number.T en the last episode saw the importance of the logo and how to add photos from Instagram and Facebook into Google my business. Now lets look at improving the strength of the listing so it can rank.
