Website critique is there to benefit you
No one likes to be told their website isn’t working. Or having someone pointing out some things that you are already aware of. But the truth is the majority of websites are never completed. Web designers sit and hope they have done enough. Sometimes a lack of knowledge means a process is followed that is such an old technique that it could even damage your business.
Additionally web design is ever changing. Web site visitors are far more shrewd and educated. They also now arrive via mobiles not desktops. So following these changes below in my review will help increase sales for your business.
Why You Need A Website critique
I want to help web designers and small businesses grow. The consistency in your design will strengthen the brand awareness and with a clear focus it will improve customer relationships. I’ve realised that sometimes the best way to train or teach is to present real life examples. So I decided to put together a series of examples of where things are going well and where they are screaming out for improvement. Here are some of the common issues i find when looking at potential clients website
- It isn’t mobile friendly
- The design looks dated
- No one knows what you actually do
- I have no idea what you want me to do and what action i should take.
- The website took so long to load, i gave up!
- When I search for you in the search engines, I had no way of finding you.
If you want to be considered for my free website review then make sure you fill out the form and I will gladly consider making you the next one in my series.
Website critique #1 for Oven Cleaning Company
So out first website critique is for Southampton based company called Brill Oven Gleam at brillovengleam.co.uk. The aim was to find at least 5 things that the business owner should concentrate on to improve his website. The video review is below:
Website Review Positives
So the website was mobile friendly and had a lot of potential.
It was secure using https (essential for browsers in 2019)
It was considered mobile friendly. (essential for Google search engine). You can test it on https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly
It had a listing in Google My Business and other listings.
It had some clear call to action buttons in a bright red, so there was no doubt what the visitor needed to do.
The site had a clear identity as to what the business offered.
The site had prices which shows honesty and transparency.
Website Review : 5 Required Improvements
- Testimonials need either updating to at least 4 or 5 or remove it all together until you have them. If not it will have a negative effect on building trust in your next customer.
- Title is missing use your main keywords. From the SEO (Search Engines) point of view, the Title is extremely important and your page titles have no connection with your business. Use keywords like oven and oven gleaming services. You can use Yoast plugin as you have a WordPress website.
- Text size on the navigation is quite small and hard to read. Consider making this at least the same size as the standard text.
- The images used on services are far to small to be useful. Additionally they are taking a huge amount of time to load. Make sure you resize them to a useful size and optimise them using a plugin like Smush it so they load quickly and correctly. Also the page with pictures only has one picture.
- Update your blog or remove it. Old news or little news isn’t going to help your visitors. So right articles that answer the types of questions your visitors are currently asking.
Of course criticising websites is not what I do best. I would much rather improve websites A fresh new redesigned mobile friendly website is always a joy to deliver for a new client. Take a look at my successes at my web design portfolio or apply for a free consultation.
