How Do You Control Google Business Profile on Maps?
The truth is you can’t control how close someone is to your business. So you can’t control everything Google throws at your business in ranking terms. When a potential customer is searching for your type of business they are given some filters on their search.
For example the price, expensive or inexpensive? This may just be down to the type of restaurant it is. Fine cuisine is very different to a burger restaurant and ultimately that is decided by users that visit. As they review they let Google know how it ranked in value for money. So you have no control over that.
Additionally, you cant control distance. That literally means “how close is your restaurant to the person searching for it”. So there’s always going to be a benefit in being in an up-built area where people are going to be searching for your type of business.
Of course, this doesn’t just apply to restaurants this applies to all businesses
How To Rank Business On Google Maps With Keywords
Think different from other businesses by using keywords in a different way. Focus on the customer, not Google to rank, it really works. Use keywords in your post, website and reviews.
For example, if I wanted to book a cab in Mumbai, as a customer what do I really want? What are the words I would use that are important to me? Think about me as the customer. Surely words such as “Reliability”. Fo a customer like myself I want the cab turning up on time – right?
So adding the keyword which is focused on a customer will help the business stand out I would use “reliable cab service” as a great keyword in these circumstances. This is your opportunity to lead the way as 90% of businesses out there are just not optimising. Stop copying, just be inspired and do something even better! Photos and Images Help You Stand Out Too
Be more creative with your photos on Google Maps. You can even show an animated gif and rename it as a Jpeg! When you use a professional unique photo on your profile, it can produce a very high CTR (ClickThru Rate).
Google does provide guidance on what it’s looking for here. Just follow the guide. In effect 3 internal, external, team images etc Remember that every image is now over a thousand words. The intelligence from Google AI is stunning as shown in the video at the top of this article. Google Vision reads and knows what your images are. So with this in mind, it might help you stand out as you pick photos that have real value, not just happen to be lying about on a local file.
With shopfronts, these are really important but not always clickable compared to products. You can use Google Images search to see what google considers the type of image to use if you want inspiration.
Other extras
So we have covered the basics of How To Rank Your Business On Google Maps. Here are some additional factors to consider.
Provide customers with clear direction. Is it a clear focus of what they need to do to make a purchase? Does your business provide booking and buttons to take a call to action?
For some businesses check out to see if you have attributes that can be enabled. For example, a flower shop is all about bright photos but think of services delivery, curbside pickup (covid). Provide a great service on all levels. Thank all your reviews and answer all your questions. Add FAQs. Be helpful and serve your customers. Ask customers what isn’t working – everyone makes mistakes, but keep it friendly and real.
