How Much Does a Website Redesign Cost?
A respected customer asks, when you’re going to get your website into the 21st century? Initially your stunned. “I only had it designed a few years ago”, you reply. Actually was it 5 years? When you check your records it was 8 years! Is it time to start looking for a redesign? Naturally you want to know a website redesign cost before you even go there. This article will outline some of the advantages of a redesign, the types of prices you can expect, and some great tips on how to keep the costs down.
Do websites have a shelf life for small businesses?
Have you ever looked at a well known website from 10 years ago? Try looking at Amazon or Ebay on Archive.org even 5 years ago and the website will struggle to render gracefully on a modern mobile device or tablet. Why? The web is an evolving creature.
With new design techniques and improved browser support all websites start looking dated a few years down the line. So 3 to 5 years is a long time in the ever evolving business world. I took a look at my average client to see how often they start looking for new designs. There are a few that don’t mind the years ticking by, but realistically the web site is a presence not a lead generator. Most active business though, look to re-address at least the skin or theme of there website within 5 years.
Website Redesigns Are Not Expensive
What many small businesses don’t realise, is redesign is not an expensive exercise. The content and architecture is not generally going to change. What is needed is the way it’s presented. We wrote an article on this back in 2014 called Design The Brief. There we explained that clear thinking and understanding the structure of the process is where the money can be saved. This all takes place a long way back before the design and build. Sadly too many clients want to get on with it and not put any preparation in. Like a good painter who spends 90% preparing and 10% on the final coat, web designs are in a similar mold.
This is where I come in. I specialise in branding and designing mobile friendly responsive web sites. So if you want to see how your site can look, contact me and I will be happy to take a look at your site and provide you with some creative ideas.
Pricing A Small Business Website Redesign
All our redesign websites start from £500. The majority of the websites in our portfolio used the opportunity to re-brand and redesign and fell below the £1000 mark.
The unknown part in the cost is due to the amount of time to take the previous website content and re format it beautiful readable information that visitors want to read. Generally these days in the world of low attention span, cutting back content works well and keeps cost down for you too.
Google insists that your site must work on mobiles for them to credit you with search engine juice. If you need any help with the above, don’t hesitate to drop me an email here.
